Luke 10:1: “After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.”
Evangelist Greg Stier often says, “awkward is awesome!” It may have been awkward to share our faith in Jesus and it still may feel a bit like that. Today, you will see how awesome God is to not send us to evangelize alone.
The New Testament presents a pattern of Jesus’ disciples, working in pairs and sharing the Good News of God’s kingdom. In today’s reading, 72 disciples are sent out in groups of two to all the surrounding towns ahead of Jesus’ actual visits. They were the advanced teams who were going and proclaiming the Good News ahead of where Jesus walked.
We are called to go in the same awkwardly-awesome way. Together, empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are to take the Gospel to places where Jesus is not yet known; places where He wants to go! Let’s go together as representatives of the King and find people of peace. Let’s Go!
