John 1:40-42: “Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, ‘We have found the Messiah (that is, the Christ).’ And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, ‘You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas (which, when translated, is Peter).’”
Are you ready for your love for Jesus to be let loose? Today’s devotional will inspire us to point others to Jesus.
Today’s hero, Andrew, is not as well-known as his brother Peter, yet it was Andrew who brought Peter to Jesus and introduced him to the Messiah. We are well aware of all that Peter did, especially with his leadership role in the church; still, it all began with Andrew’s heart for Jesus and his desire that Peter know Jesus, too. In another place in John’s Gospel, we see Andrew introducing people to Jesus. Check out John 12:20-22. It is really amazing that this largely unknown hero went about quietly introducing people to Christ and God did the rest! We are not responsible for the results; all we are called to do is to proclaim that Jesus is King and let the Holy Spirit do everything else. We are like field planters: we sow Kingdom seeds of truth wherever we go and God will use them as he wills. This really takes the pressure off of us. Let’s be Andrews today and introduce our family and friends and those we meet to Jesus today!
