Revelation 2:4-5 “But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.”
Today’s Go Guide could be the most challenging yet. We want people to know the love of Jesus Christ, but we may find a barrier of lost love that is hidden by neglect and familiarity.
Think back to when you first surrendered your life to Christ: the excitement and joy, the love and gratefulness you felt…compare then with how you feel now. Are there any differences? The people in the church at Ephesus were guilty of having lost their “first love.” They no longer had the joy and the love that made them dynamic and infectious witnesses for Christ. When we love someone, we talk about them! It is as simple as that.
If you find that your love for Christ has grown cold, in His grace, Christ invites you to respond to him. Take time today to remember how much you loved him at the beginning. Remind yourself of His amazing grace and loving mercy by remembering your testimony and the Gospel. Read Ephesians 2:1-10 and marvel at His love for you! Then, ask the Lord to help you identify what could be causing you to abandon your first love. As he reveals these barriers, repent and return to those first things: renew your love for God daily, surrender completely to His will, and share His love with others.
