Matthew 9:35-36, “And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the Gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”
What a week it has been so far as we break down barriers that have held us back! Share today’s devotional on social media and invite your friends to get involved in this month of movement.
Today, we are challenging you to break through the barrier of apathy.
The Scripture for today tells a story of Jesus teaching, healing, and proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom throughout cities and villages. His ministry was what we might call holistic: caring for both the spiritual and physical needs of people. He had compassion for weary people in their time of need.
It is in times of pain or struggle that people feel their need for Jesus. But let’s be honest, it can feel so hard to lean into these hard moments with people.
An antidote to our apathy is to remember Jesus’ compassion. Ask God to remind you of his love for you. Then ask Him to empower you to see others as He sees them. What would it look like to take a step towards someone in your life to show the love and compassion of God today?
Rest in the loving presence of God today. Pray for increased compassion for people in your life who may be experiencing hardship, loss, or pain today.
When you see a person in need today whether on social media, at work, or in the neighborhood, stop to see if there is a way you can help meet the need. Be interruptible, listen well to the people around you, and watch how God will move through you. It is truly exhilarating!
